In the spotlight

The Alt-Modern Ensemble is one of the most striking and innovative chamber music ensembles with a fundamentally new concept. The international team is based on the idea of interaction and mutual enrichment of two performing schools and traditions - Russian and West European. Being the standard of quality, the Russian performing school is combined in the ensemble with the European trends of modern musical performance. This is a liberation from interpretative cliches, a thorough analysis of the structure, form, creation history and features of a certain era - all that is necessary to maximize approximation to the authentic performance of the original author.

The Alt-Modern ensemble consists of 12 members (string quintet, piano, harpsichord, flute and baroque flute, oboe and historical oboe, clarinet and historical clarinet, French horn, bassoon). Created in Karlsruhe in 2005 on the initiative of Russian-German musicians Alexander Kashin (cellist, artistic director) and Kirill Rybakov (clarinetist), Alt-Modern brought together representatives of various musical cultures, including honored artists of Russia and laureates of international competitions. Some members of the ensemble are soloists of the State Academic Bolshoi Theater of Russia.

From the very beginning of its activity Alt-Modern attracts with its variety and non-standard concert programs. A flexible collective model - from a duet to an ensemble of 11 people, depending on the program of the concert, significantly expands the repertoire of the ensemble, not connected by the framework of a single chamber-music formation (trio, quartet, etc.).

Of particular interest is Alt-Modern's appeal to rarely performed works by composers J. Onslow, V. Rabl, A. Tzemlinsky, G. Catoir, E. Korngold, S. Taneev, N. Roslavets and others. Great success was accompanied by Alt-Modern music-literary programs.

A characteristic feature of the Alt-Modern ensemble is the unique atmosphere of live music creation that is created on the stage. Alt-Modern concerts every time become an event both for listeners and for musical criticism, which noted “... a beautiful, rich sound with a great sense ...” (Flensburger Tageblatt) and “... excellent teamwork of the ensemble, the play of which is intense and emotional ...” (Badische Neueste Nachrichten).

Alt-Modern is a regular guest at international music festivals, including “Europäische Kulturtage Karlsruhe 2006” (The Days of European Culture 2006, Karlsruhe), “The Seasons” (2006, Moscow), “The Stars” (2008, Moscow), "Grötzinger Musiktage" ("The Groetzinger Music-Days" 2012, Groetzinger).

Constantly expanding the geography of its performances, the ensemble gives concerts in Europe and Russia. Alt-Modern's repertoire includes works from the Baroque to the present.
