The band and "Che-MD" from Balti plays Rock in Moldavian ethnic style. Modern music takes on all new forms of embodiment of creative thought, giving the listener the opportunity, in case of sufficient talent of the authors, to absorb new sound and "ideas of sound". Rock music rises again to the heights of popularity, from time to time it soundes in its different colors from bard-rock to folk-metal. In Moldova, the niche of the “heavy” ethno is occupied by the Chel-MD Balti group. Soon she will present in Chisinau her new album "Factory Un Moldova". By the way, the Cyrillic alphabet in the names in the Moldavian language is not accidental in the aesthetics of the collective. After all, it was the Cyrillic font, and not Latin, that was the first for the Moldavian language - for the reason that for a long time the official language of the Moldavian principality was Old Slavonic or, according to another version, late medieval West Russian.
The Che-MD group, then called Plexus, was founded in 2002. She was a permanent leader and an ideological inspirer. Mikhail Smolenko, now a journalist, NTV MOLDOVA TV channel, a documentary filmmaker and lover of Moldavian antiquity. The name of the musical group is associated with a combination of the name of the legendary revolutionary Che Guevara and the name of the Internet domain of Moldova - md. "Che Guevara - MD". And the group began to call itself Che-MD.
At first, the musicians played garage punk, an alternative and something in the aesthetics of Russian rock. Since 2008, the group, according to Mikhail Smolenko, finally found itself and began to turn into what we know now - a team playing an ethno-alternative. The secret of this trend is easy to understand - heavy guitar riffs, Moldavian folk motifs and the melody of modern rock. The Che-MD repertoire includes medieval themes, cheerful Moldavian choirs, and modern revolutionary protest compositions. The languages of the compositions Che-MD are Moldavian and Russian. Most of the team’s work is dedicated to the heroic past of the Moldovan people, the formation and prosperity of the medieval Moldavian princedom, its struggle with the Ottomans, nomads and other enemies.
The Che-MD group is trying to open people's eyes to the true meaning of the past of the Moldavian nation through their music, in which they sing about national identity and love of folk roots. This is not a "reconstruction" and not a substitution of concepts, as sometimes happens in the ethno-music of other countries. This is an attempt to understand how many ethnic Moldavians living in modern Moldova can do this, as they say, in one film "It's Not Just Here."
